Amazon unveiled its latest products and features that incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into the Amazon ecosystem and smart home devices. This includes new Amazon Echo devices, frame glasses, and Fire tablets integrated with Amazon’s Alexa chatbot.
During its annual Devices event, Amazon emphasized the complexity of connecting generative AI to the real world during the event. Large Language Models (LLMs), which are machine learning algorithms trained on vast datasets, must manage a wide range of variations in a customer’s home to trigger the right actions with the right APIs. Amazon has developed its own LLM independently of other major AI developers.
Generative AI, a technology that uses prompts to make AI generate images or text, gained public attention last year with the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Since then, tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft have been competing to dominate consumer-facing AI technology.
What’s more?
The presentation also introduced other products, including:
- a wall-mounted smart home control panel called Echo Hub
- a Fire TV soundbar that integrates with Amazon’s Fire TV
- an updated Fire TV Stick with 4K
- new Ring cameras
- and a map feature called Map View for tracking the status of Amazon-equipped smart homes in the U.S
To address privacy concerns, Amazon highlighted that the map feature is an “opt-in” experience. While specific cybersecurity upgrades were not detailed, Amazon emphasized the importance of trust and security in their product. The company mentioned rigorous security reviews, data encryption, and regular software security updates as part of its security measures to protect devices and customer data. Amazon has also collaborated with third-party security penetration testing firms to enhance security.
This announcement comes after Amazon joined other tech companies in pledging to develop AI responsibly and improve AI model safety and ethics.
