Ethereum Request For Comments (ERC)

Ethereum Request For Comments: Rule Defining, Technical Standard For Ethereum

What Is Ethereum Request For Comments (ERC)?

An Ethereum Request For Comments (ERC) is a rule-defining, technical standard for implementing smart contracts and/or tokens within the Ethereum ecosystem.

ERCs propose improvements to the existing protocol and standards within the network.

How Do ERCs Work?

ERCs are first submitted through an Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP). These proposals are submitted for review by the community, where comments can be made on the proposal and improved upon it prior to being approved as an official standard by the Ethereum Committee.

The most used ERC standards include the ERC-20 token standard and ERC-721 non-fungible token standard.
