The Bitcoin gaming firm ZEBEDEE announced the release of No Big Deal (NDB), a non-profit focused on fostering open-source development for Bitcoin and the Lightning Network.
- NBD launched several projects that deal with “hosted channels” on the Lightning Network. This layer 2 network aids in making bitcoin transactions more affordable and swift. Hosted channels are connections to the network that do not demand users to pay bitcoins before using Lightning.
- The NBD project enables more people to operate their own software, clients, and infrastructure instead of using for-profit services like ZEBEDEE.
- Most of the company’s efforts have been concentrated on the Lightning Network and hosted channel support. By eliminating the need to lock up cash, hosted channels make moving funds across Lightning simpler and less expensive. However, the drawback of locking up money makes it clear that bitcoin reserves are necessary. Yet, some users lack the liquidity to maintain them.

The Projects On ZEBEDEE’s No Big Deal
The first four projects from NBD are focused on hosted channels. The company’s open-source development initiatives will expand to include further Bitcoin features.
- Open Bitcoin Wallet, the first project, is a cutting-edge non-custodial Lightning wallet that can enable hosted channels.
- Poncho is a Core Lightning (CLN) plugin that allows Lightning nodes to run and serve hosted channels for Lightning-compatible wallets.
- Cliche is a software program that lets developers create Lightning nodes with built-in support for hosted channels.
- Immortan allows wallet developers to add Lightning features to their wallets in a “plug-and-play” fashion.
