South Korea’s telecommunication company SK Telecom (SKT) is planning to unveil Ifland – a social metaverse -in 49 countries across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. In a report released on November 23, SKT said the platform will be powered by K-pop content, joint partnerships with global industry players, and enhanced communication channels.
One of the partnerships is with NTT Docomo. The Japan-based telecommunication firm will offer content development technology and services in the virtual world. Other companies collaborating with SKT include the United Arab Emirates’ Etisalat by e& and Singtel in Singapore.
Birger Christensen is also supporting the ecosystem. According to the announcement, the Danish fashion brand would reportedly manufacture party costumes for Ifland.

Ifland Lauded As A Step Toward Metaverse Expansion
The head of SKT’s metaverse, Yang Maeng-Seok, lauded the firms move. “Ifland has grown into the best social metaverse in Korea, receiving great love from users of a wide range of ages and various organizations,” he said. Maeng-Seok added that the company would benefit from the ‘potential’ of the metaverse globally.
Ifland metaverse plans to roll out support for the program in English, Chinese, and Japanese – with Android and iOS. The metaverse platform would also feature Korean domestic and international services on the supported apps.
Ifland launched in July 2021 and has grown to more than 12.8 million users, a 70% growth compared to the year’s start, according to the statement.
