Chinese multinational tech company Baidu has recently unveiled, Ernie 4.0, the latest version of their flagship AI-powered chatbot. On Tuesday, the company showcased the product at an event in Beijing, adding that this chatbot can compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
This latest endeavor comes as China looks to take on industry leaders such as Microsoft, Meta, Google, and OpenAI. During the event, Baidu co-founder and CEO Robin Li demonstrated the capabilities of Ernie 4.0. The chatbot was able to generate a car commercial and write a martial arts novel in minutes.
Speaking on the capabilities of Ernie 4.0, Baidu’s co-founder and CEO Robin Li said, “Ernie is not inferior in any respect to GPT-4,”. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is considered the standard for AI chatbot technology after proving to be a massive success with both users and analysts.
“We always complained AI was not intelligent enough. But today, it understands almost everything you say, and in many cases, it understands what you’re saying better than your friends or your colleague.”, he added.
Ernie 4.0 operates best in Mandarin, its primary language. It can perform tasks from English commands but at a lower level. The chatbot is currently not available to the general public. However, selected individuals have been invited to test the tool.
