Renowned rap artists Eminem and Snoop Dogg brought Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) to MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) yesterday in an event regarded as the first metaverse-inspired awards.
- Eminem and Snoop Dogg performed as Bored Apes in their NFT-inspired song “From The D 2 The LBC” at the MTV VMAs last Sunday. This music has reached many milestones in a short time; On Spotify, the track has acquired nearly 25 million streams and up to this moment their YouTube Video has amassed over 47M views.”
- This Bored Ape-themed music video was released two months ago in June, and the collaboration between Snoop Dogg and Eminem earned a VMA nomination for “Best Hip-Hop” song at this year’s awards show: “GET READY… @Eminem and @SnoopDogg are bringing “From the D 2 The LBC” to the #VMAs stage for a world premiere performance” MTV tweeted.
- These remarkable artists performed from Otherside, a Yuga Labs’ Future metaverse game. The never-before-seen performance served as an advertisement for this company, the same that created the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection last April.
- Artists are using their NFTs to activate and grow a passionate fanbase, as Eminem and Snoop did with BAYC #9,055 and BAYC #6,723 respectively. Aside from personal benefits, support from superstars like them boosts mainstream adoption of NFT and crypto in general.
- The nominated song is the first collaboration between these two major music artists in decades. This is certainly a historic event for both the rap industry and Web3.0 and metaverse space.
