Fortnite introduces “Airphoria,” a new Nike-themed adventure within the game’s Creative Mode. It offers players an exciting opportunity to embark on the ultimate ‘sneaker hunt.’ The event will be live until June 27, and players can earn free in-game sneakers.
However, the complimentary item is not an NFT, and this collaboration does not include any NFTs for apparel or accessories. Despite the association with the Nike brand, there are no plans for tokenized digital items in Fortnite. Epic Games decided to maintain its traditional approach to digital goods.
“The connection between Fortnite and Nike doesn’t integrate any NFTs or digital item trading marketplaces into the Fortnite world or its economy,” an Epic Games spokesperson told Decrypt. “Items recognized across these two ecosystems are purely for the purchaser’s enjoyment and aren’t tradeable, transferrable, or sellable, as has always been the case in the Fortnite economy.”
No In-Game NFTs?
Nike’s partnership with Fortnite does not introduce NFTs to the game but establishes a connection. This collaboration hints at Nike’s potential use. Swoosh is a platform for gaming and metaverse digital items. However, Nike’s specific intentions in this regard are uncertain. It is worth noting that Swoosh is centered around user IDs based on NFTs.
On Nike’s platform, NFT items are categorized as Virtual Creations, implying that they could provide future accessibility through these accomplishments. Once the connection is established and the milestone is achieved, the individual who made the connection, Swoosh, will gain access to a virtual collection. It’s important to note that this information is clearly stated in the disclaimer on the Epic Games website.
