Google has released the beta of Bard, its own generative AI chatbot. Originally announced in February of 2023 by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Bard is powered by Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), with some people calling it the “ChatGPT Killer”.
Bard is now available in over 180 countries and 40 languages, where there is no more waitlist. Bard introduces itself as;
“your creative and helpful collaborator. I have limitations and won’t always get it right, but your feedback will help me improve.”
Bard has access to the internet, where it can find the latest and most relevant answers to questions. Although, Bard is still experimental, meaning that the algorithm’s deep learning algorithms are still collecting more data to provide better answers.
Google announced that Bard would “soon” be available on Google Search, where it will help synthesize insights for questions when there isn’t a single right answer and distil complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats.

Bard VS ChatGPT
Compared to ChatGPT, Bard can provide insights slightly faster than GPT-4, OpenAIs most powerful language model. The answers it gives you also come with sources cited. Access to the internet and citing sources with Bard is free, but for ChatGPT, it is limited – these features are only accessible through a paid subscription. The answers provided by Bard can also be exported to a Google Document or a draft Gmail, whereas ChatGPT can’t be exported.
Bard can also be prompted with images by the use of Google Lens, something ChatGPT cannot do. It can also deliver images to you, which ChatGPT also can’t do.
ChatGPT has been rolling out plugins on its store, which enhance the accessibility of the app and allows integration with various services. Google will implement Bard into all of its services eventually, which may have a wider array of accessibility, especially when Google integrates these services and is not a third-party like a majority of ChatGPT applications. Some of the many services Bard integrates include; Spotify, Walmart, Indeed, Uber Eats, Adobe, Khan Academy, and every Google app.
Bard also supports over 20 programming languages, such as; Python, C++, Java, JavaScript, and TypeScript. Similarly, ChatGPT can also support a large variety of coding languages, including those listed above.
