During the second week of the joint SAG-AFTRA/WGA strike, Netflix is actively recruiting AI developers for its R&D Labs and Machine Learning division. The move comes amid discussions surrounding the use of AI in film and TV production. The positions being sought are Product Manager and Technical Director.
“We are creating a new product management role to increase the leverage of our Machine Learning Platform,” Netflix said in the job posting.
The Technical Director and Product Manager roles, based at Netflix’s Los Gatos, CA headquarters, offer substantial six-figure salaries. The Product Manager has a salary range between $300,000 to $900,000 and $450,000 to $650,000 for the Technical Director role. These positions can also be performed remotely, as per Netflix’s announcement.
“At Netflix, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine your personal top of the market,” Netflix said. “We rely on market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific job, skills, and experience to get it right. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location.”
AI Usage in Film Industry
Both writers and actors in Hollywood are worried about AI’s impact. Writers fear losing jobs to generative AI tools like ChatGPT. While actors are concerned about their likenesses being scanned for background roles, potentially leading to indefinite use without fair compensation.
The job posting indicates a strong demand for AI and machine learning expertise. Experience in game design and machine learning is required, but a college degree is not specified.
