OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has made the decision to disable the web-browsing feature known as “Browse with Bing.” This feature allowed ChatGPT to access and retrieve information from the web in real time.
However, OpenAI has chosen to remove this functionality, citing reasons such as misuse concerns. “We have learned that the ChatGPT Browse beta can occasionally display content in ways we don’t want,” OpenAI wrote on Monday.
OpenAI highlighted cases where a ChatGPT Plus user requested the entire text of a URL. The chatbot would provide the complete text, disregarding paywalls and privacy settings.
When ‘Browse with Bing’ be back?
OpenAI did not disclose a specific timeframe for its reinstatement. They reassured users that they are actively working to address the concerns and restore the functionality as quickly as possible.
“Very grateful to the ChatGPT Plus subscribers who have been helping us test the browsing feature,” OpenAI tweeted. “This is why we started with a beta—have received extremely valuable feedback, learned a lot, & will bring it back soon.”
