Interaction with Ethereum-compatible decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts will be authorized with the start of the test phase of Ripple’s new XRP Ledger (XRPL) sidechain.
- This development is expected to expand utility, make the chain permissionless, and enhance scalability. The sidechain aims to process 1,000 transactions per second (TPS). The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible XRP Ledger sidechain will enter its second phase in early 2023
- A group of XRPL developers known as RippleX and blockchain software provider Peersyst announced the introduction of an EVM-compatible sidechain on the XRP Ledger in a tweet on October 17.
- As a result, Ripple users would soon have access to Web3 wallets like MetaMask, and XUMM Wallet.

Permissionless EVM-Compatible Sidechain On XRPL
- According to Ripple, the newly released EVM sidechain aims to be the first phase in a three-part process to provide a permissionless EVM-compatible sidechain to the XRP community.
- According to the announcement, the third phase, which will see the complete launch of the RippleX software, is planned for Q2 of 2023. The second phase will see the sidechain become permissionless, enabling anybody to join.
- The Chief Technology Officer of Ripple, David Schwartz, told CoinDesk that the EVM sidechain will be added to the XRPL mainnet by 2023. He further said, “The bridge in the final solution will be decentralized, and all components of the solution will be production ready to handle real-world scale and use cases.”
