YouGov and Consensys conducted a survey asking people around the world about emerging technology. This technology includes cryptocurrency, NFT, and Web3.
YouGov is an international polling company specializing in market research and data analytics. On the other hand, Consensys is a software company focused on Ethereum blockchain development.
Over 15,000 individuals from 15 countries were polled in the survey between April 26 and May 18. The survey comprised 32 questions on Web3, cryptocurrencies, and participants’ opinions on the internet landscape.
According to the report, 92% of respondents globally said they have heard of crypto. Nigeria, South Korea, and South Africa are among the countries that lead in awareness. Overall, 50% of respondents stated that they have heard about crypto and understand them.
On the contrary, Web3 awareness ranked as the “least-known” concept against Metaverse and NFT. Only 24% of the respondents globally are aware of the idea. At the same time, Metaverse and NFT raked 36% and 34%, respectively.
What is Web3?
As the latest iteration of the internet, Web3 is still in the building process. So there is no single and established definition of it yet.
In emerging technologies, Web3 refers to the next generation of the internet, characterized by decentralization, blockchain technology, and increased user control over data and digital assets.
It aims to redefine how we interact and transact online, enabling peer-to-peer interactions, intelligent contracts, and decentralized applications (dApps). Web3 is envisioned as a more open, transparent, and user-centric internet that empowers individuals and removes the need for intermediaries in various online activities.
