President-elect Donald Trump has named David Sacks, former PayPal COO and venture capitalist, as his top adviser on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency. Trump announced the appointment on Dec. 6 via Truth Social, emphasizing the importance of AI and crypto for America’s global competitiveness.
Sacks’ role includes creating a legal framework to provide clarity for the crypto industry and fostering growth in the U.S. He will also address online speech, aiming to counter Big Tech bias and censorship. Additionally, Sacks will chair the Presidential Council of Advisors for Science and Technology.

Who is David Sacks?
David Sacks is known for co-founding Yammer, later sold to Microsoft for $1.2 billion and co-hosting the “All In” podcast. He was an early executive at payment giant PayPal.
Sacks has also been a vocal Trump supporter. Earlier this year, he hosted a fundraiser that raised $12 million for Trump’s campaign.
Trump’s administration has leaned heavily into crypto, pledging to make the U.S. the “world capital of crypto.” He has also appointed other crypto advocates, including Elon Musk in an advisory role and Paul Atkins to lead the SEC.
