In response to the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence, American President Joe Biden announced new guidelines for the safe development of AI technology. In a press release from the White House, President Biden revealed that 7 of the leading companies in Artificial Intelligence have committed to this guideline for safe AI.
A total of 8 measures have been included in this guideline. This includes watermarking AI content and using independent experts to test the safety limits of a new AI technology. Among the companies to agree on these measures are Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI – all of which are industry leaders in AI and based in the US.
Speaking on the potential risk such technology poses, President Biden said, “We must be clear-eyed and vigilant about the threats emerging technologies can pose,”.
Although the commitment to the guideline is voluntary and not legally binding, the president believes this to be an integral step in ensuring cyber security. “These commitments are a promising step, but we have a lot more work to do together.”, said President Biden.
This agreement is seen as a necessary first step in implementing proper regulations for AI development worldwide.
