Terms of Use

The rules of the road.

Last updated: 9 July 2026.

These terms govern your access to and use of The Distributed — this publication and the dashboard at thedistributed.co (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to them, to our Privacy Policy, and to our Disclaimer. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You are responsible for the activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your sign-in method secure. Authentication is provided by a third party (Clerk); your use of it is also subject to its terms. You may delete your account at any time from account settings.

Information, not advice

The Service publishes market data, statistics, and algorithmically derived signals for general informational and educational purposes only. Nothing here is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security. Read the full Disclaimer — it is part of these terms. You are solely responsible for your own decisions.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the Service or its data except as expressly permitted;
  • resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the data without our written permission;
  • circumvent rate limits, security controls, or access restrictions;
  • disrupt the Service, or use it to break any law or infringe anyone’s rights.

Quoting and republication

We built this so the numbers get used. You are welcome to quote our figures and cite our work — including in articles, posts, videos, and research — with attribution to The Distributed and, online, a link to the page you drew from. What you may not do without written permission is republish substantial portions of the Service, mirror our pages, or redistribute the underlying dataset as a product.

Data sources and intellectual property

Underlying data is sourced from third parties — including Reddit, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (EDGAR), the Federal Reserve Economic Data service (FRED), congressional disclosures, Wikidata, and licensed market-data providers — and remains subject to those sources’ own terms and rights. The way we compile, analyse, and present that data, together with our software, design, and text, is owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial use.

Newsletter

Subscribing to the newsletter is optional, uses double opt-in, and can be undone with the unsubscribe link in any issue. Newsletter content is subject to the same Disclaimer as the rest of the Service.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the Service or its data will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free. Nothing in these terms excludes guarantees that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for any loss of profits, trading losses, or loss of data, arising from your use of or reliance on the Service. Where our liability cannot be excluded, it is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the Service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied.

Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms or to protect the Service or other users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — survive.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that State.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the Service evolves; the “last updated” date at the top reflects the current version, and continued use means you accept the changes. Questions: contact@thedistributed.co.
