IonQ, Inc. said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it has appointed Dr. Eric Ball and Timothy Baxter to its board of directors.

The company, based in College Park, Maryland, described the additions as support for its next phases of growth. IonQ Chairman and CEO Niccolo de Masi said the company is making a shift toward rapid scalability in quantum computing manufacturing while integrating components of its quantum platform.

Dr. Ball has nearly 40 years in senior financial roles at public companies including AT&T, Cisco and Flextronics, and spent 10 years as Senior Vice President and Treasurer at Oracle, where he arranged $52 billion of financing and served on M&A teams for more than 100 acquisitions. He holds a PhD in Management Economics, has authored two books, has taught economics at three universities, and sits on multiple corporate and non-profit boards.

Timothy Baxter served as Chairman of the SkyWater Technology Board of Directors until SkyWater's recently completed acquisition by IonQ. He has more than 40 years of experience leading major technology companies, including senior management roles at AT&T, Sony and Samsung, where he became CEO of Samsung North America. He helped launch technologies including 5G, HDTV and Blu-ray, and currently serves on several private and publicly traded boards.

De Masi said IonQ's responsibilities as what he called the leading quantum merchant supplier are significant, along with advances the company expects to make in quantum computing through vertical integration.
